Q&A with Rika Tatsuno

1. Where did you grow up? How did you get discovered/signed?

I was born and raised in Tokyo and moved to the US when I was 6 years old. I played division 1 college tennis on a full athletic scholarship, but my passion has always been in the fashion industry. As soon as I graduated, I decided to go to some of the agency's in LA and thankfully I was signed with the first agency that I walked into! (Q management) 

2. First job in the industry? How did you get your start? 

My very first job was the Speedo Olympic line. I think I got that job because of my strong background in athletics.  

3. There aren't a lot of Asian faces in the modeling world. Has that impacted your work or projects at all? 

It's very hard to find a tall Asian girl in the fashion industry. However, I feel as though many designers and clients are starting to use more and more Asians which is very exciting!  

4. Style Icon? Favorite brands or designers?  Describe your personal style. 

I don't have any favorite style icon or favorite designer but my 'look' would be simple-chic with a little mixture of California casual style!  

5. Any advice for young women trying to find their place in the crazy world of fashion?

Anything is possible if you put your heart and soul into it!  

6. Where can we see Rika for the upcoming year? Any big campaigns or work you would like to plug?

I'm actually transitioning to the Asian market right now (I currently live in Tokyo) and so I'm hoping to land some big jobs over in the fashion city of Tokyo!
